Dear Applicants,
Firstly, I am incredibly excited about you considering joining the jury team of Thessaloniki 2024! Below I will shed some light on what my plan for this team looks like, as well as what you can expect from me in return, but what matters most to me is what your own thoughts for the team are. I cannot wait to hear your ideas and your motivation to join this team.
My aim is to bring a professional, accessible, and compassionate jury team to the beautiful city of Thessaloniki. My vision for the team is based upon sharing and engaging with bright people from a variety of backgrounds. At the foundation, I envision the team being an open, but close-knit space, in which all members find the safety to completely trust and respect each other, as well as each other’s judgement. Besides my mission for our team to become an enabling factor for the personal growth of the delegates, it is essential to me that each team member has the ability to work on their own development and experience. In order to learn from each other as equals, each member will be invited to draw from their own personal background and add to the team, creating a melting pot of individuals. In order to get the team building process well underway, I plan on organising social calls with the whole jury team early and often, so that social calls with the whole jury team early and often, so that we have ample time to create a real bond between the team members.
This dynamic within the team also reflects on the ability of the jury to be open towards other teams, and most importantly, the delegates. I hope to create an environment around the jury team that invites delegates to engage with us, ask questions, and (when appropriate) joke around, rather than building a moat around ourselves and erasing any form of transparency. This is central to one of the jury team’s main functions in EYP, namely helping the delegates challenge themselves and develop themselves as active citizens.
I believe that in finding solutions to the world’s problems, both in real life, as well as in the semi-fictional realm of EYP, the motivation to learn, experience and feel is what makes the difference, not whether you have the highest marks. I originally wrote this about the delegates, but I realize now that it’s equally true for the jury team as well. The smaller the team, the more influential the individual contribution becomes.
Thanks so much for your time. I look forward to reading your applications and hearing your ideas!
