Dear applicants,
Firstly, I would like to thank you for your interest and for taking the time to read through my vision. Under the theme “Perpetual Bloom of the Youth: Creating the basis for an innovative and empowered European future” the Academic Team of Athens 2024 will work to create a session focusing on tackling the many challenges the EU is facing by focusing on the small, achievable steps we can take to move forward and come closer to a sustainable and unified future every day. Rather than trying to fix every single problem overnight, I want Delegates to focus on building sustainable systems of incremental change over time. My aim is to inspire and empower participants to get involved, take action in their communities, get educated and share their knowledge and beliefs, motivated by the momentum they create by taking this first step.
As a President, my goal when aiming for an innovative team and output isn’t to reinvent the wheel and completely change the way sessions work - I want to make small, meaningful changes and, most importantly, provide the Board, the Chairs, and the rest of the session with the knowledge and support to innovate and come up with new ideas themselves. For this session specifically, I want to focus on taking all the lessons I have learned in past academic teams and use them to not only elevate the quality of the academic output but to create a session-long learning space where my team will be able to try out new things, elevate and perfect their already existing knowledge, and have a glimpse of other roles and responsibilities they might want to try out in EYP.
In regard to the Academic Team, specifically, I aim to create an empowering and challenging environment for every member. By focusing on knowledge sharing, cooperation, and transparency, I want the Chairsteam to become an inclusive space, where each person is invited to explore their own limits. To achieve that, one of my top priorities is to accept and celebrate failure as pathway to growth and effective learning, rather than just a mistake.
This will translate to the Board work in two major ways. Firstly, the Board work will be grounded on transparency, communication, and trust. I believe each member of the Board brings immense value to the team, and want to encourage each Vice-President to utilise their skills to the maximum. As such, Vice-Presidents will have a lot of autonomy and room to innovate and bring up different ideas whether that is within their Buddy Groups, in the Academic Team or the session as a whole.
The second pillar is all about support. Accepting and celebrating innovation and challenges means there will inevitably be times when things don’t go as planned. When that happens, I want the Board to know that they can lean on their fellow VPs and myself for support, both in overcoming any existing issue and in learning and making the most out of any situation.
All of that being said, I am looking for 3 Vice-Presidents motivated to learn, have fun, and make the most out of Athens 2024! If this sparks your interest, I am very excited to read those applications
