Dear Potential Applicant,
Thank you for your interest in applying and reading my vision for the Jury Team for the Thessaloniki '23 - 46th National Selection Conference of EYP Greece. My vision for the Jury Team centres on cultivating a cohesive and diverse group of individuals, prioritising personal growth through self-awareness and constructive feedback. I am dedicated to integrating the session's theme into my role as the Head of Jury, as well as in my team’s work - my belief is that infusing the session's theme into our work can result in a more engaging and meaningful experience for all participants. Specifically for my team, I want to make sure that each and every Jury Member will take some time, both individually and as a group, and reflect on why the theme of the session is important to them, and how they can relate to it.
One of the most meaningful things I have learned through my EYP journey is that you can learn from anyone, and learning takes so many forms. I endeavour to embody this perspective in my role as the Head of Jury, aiming to inspire and be inspired by my work. A critical component of the Jury Team involves the delegate selection process. In my vision, this process embraces a multifaceted approach, where selection is adaptable and viewed through various lenses, considering the unique aspects of the session. The focus should shift from seeking the "perfect delegate" to recognising potential and fostering growth.
Fair and Efficient Selection
Achieving a fair selection process involves a combination of understanding biases, considering what each Jury Team is looking for, and interpreting and discussing selection criteria openly among team members. I do not believe in the notion of a "perfect delegate" as different qualities may be sought after by different Jury Teams.
Furthermore, I have observed that at times, jurors overlook the perspective of the delegates, disregarding their own experiences when they were in that role - it is crucial to remember that the Jury Team may evoke feelings of anxiety, pressure, and even panic for certain individuals.
Open and Transparent Communication
I believe that one key element of both internal team success and whole session success is the way in which people communicate. Oftentimes, concepts of honest communication are referred to but remain only on paper. As I do like to work on flatter, where everyone has ownership and can bring up their ideas, I believe that transparency should be one of the main objectives to achieve.
Self-development within the team
As my work consists of flatter dynamics, I want to put a large emphasis on personal growth and development. For this, I will give my team the ability to take ownership of certain activities they want to, as well as being able to speak their mind whenever they feel like it. I will use different techniques I know from both EYP and non-EYP contexts to make sure that everyone will draft some personal goals and aims, and I will try my best to assist everyone in working and achieving those before, during and after the session, with constant reflection upon them.
