Dear EYPer,

Thank you for considering applying as a Vice-President to Thessaloniki 2020, the 42nd National Selection Conference of EYP Greece. Let me share my thoughts on how I envision my relation with the Vice-Presidents, but also the work of the board as a whole. My vision for the board is based on three pillars:

  • Trust & Reliability: I will depend on you. Thessaloniki 2020 will be a big session: We expect 120 delegates and we will have 17 Chairpersons chairing 10 committees (7 co-chaired committees, 3 single-chaired committees). Including the three VPs and myself, this means that the Chairs’ Team alone will consist of more than 20 people. Furthermore, this is a National Selection Conference, so we are aiming for a certain level of academic quality. I will not sugar-coat that this means a lot of work. I can’t lead the team and the entire process all by myself and I am thus looking for Vice-presidents I can trust and depend on. The basis of this is open and regular communication (we all have times when we are busy with university or other projects, which is okay), but also the ability to work independently.

  • Learning Opportunities & Flat Hierarchy: As you will be vice-presiding an NSC, it isn’t too far-fetched to assume that you will preside a session yourself at some point. Or maybe you have already taken your first steps as a President and are now looking for inspiration. This is why I want you to be able to learn as much as possible from Thessaloniki 2020. I want you to get as much insight as you want, so I will take you along for whatever I do. I however don’t want you to be the only ones learning something, as I’m convinced that I myself can also learn something from you. This is why I want to give you the opportunity to not just follow in the slipstream, but also actively take responsibility for certain elements or try something new. I want you to feel responsible and also take ownership of the session just as much as I do.

  • An enjoyable experience for everyone: These expectations however shouldn’t mean that we will spend all of our time working hard: I also want to make sure that we all have a good time and enjoy the session to the fullest. At the end of the session, I want all of us to have had fun, made new friends and look back at the session with a smile on our faces. Thus, I am aiming at having a good atmosphere within the Chairs’ Team where everybody can feel comfortable and taken care of, and the Vice-presidents will play a vital role in this.

And this is where the three pillars come together: I am looking for Vice-Presidents who are willing and motivated to also be drivers of this session, people who are curious, who are motivated and not afraid of going the extra mile to create something extraordinary, but also people who can contribute to a good atmosphere in the team. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me. I am looking forward to seeing your applications.

Best,

Lars Kieni
